Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

FASD is evident in the north, as it is elsewhere. The pool is a physically and mentally stimulating place, especially during swimming lessons. It is a place where staff members need to be aware of the needs of individuals affected by FASD.

To effectively communicate and provide a safe and enjoyable pool experience for all, it is important to understand the symptoms of FASD and some strategies to work with affected individuals. Staff people at the community health centre/nursing station are often good sources of information.

Check this reference for more information on:

  • Prevalence.
  • Why FASD matters to swimming pool staff.
